We’re excited to announce the release of our custom designed J. Watumull Planetarium 11x17 poster! 100% of profits will benefit @bishopmuseum. Enter code STARS for free shipping.
The planetarium first opened its doors in December 1961. Optimism about space exploration inspired the mid-century modern era’s “space age” design and increased interest in the skies. In Hawai’i, the stars hold a special significance as celestial navigation was used by Polynesian voyagers to travel the ocean. With the planetarium’s upcoming 60th anniversary later this year, this design honors its past and celebrates its future.Art by @ssugiuchi Scott Sugiuchi for Mid-Century Aloha.
