These notecards feature images of hats in the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum collection. With the arrival of foreigners to Hawaiʻi’s shores, western-style headwear became a novel addition to a Native wardrobe, progressing from simple bonnets and small hats to more elaborate affairs. The images included here provide a sampling of the beauty and creativity of this remarkable art form in the islands, as well as a glimpse into the richness and diversity of Bishop Museum’s cultural collections.
