Experience the magic of story in beautiful outdoor spaces!

Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, Kahuku Unit, has a new self-guided storybook trail based on the book Legend of the Gourd, published by Kamahoi Press, an imprint of Bishop Museum Press). “This book is a magical re-telling of the story about the Children of the Gourd who live on the Kamāʻoa Plain in Kaʻū,” says author and illustrator Caren Loebel-Fried. “Follow the storyboards along the Puʻu o Lokuana trail to the top, where the panoramic view invites you to imagine the path of the gourd vine from Kamāʻoa to Kapuʻa.”

 The Park will be hosting special events on August 13 and 27, 2022, where visitors can walk the trail with the book's author/illustrator. Book copies of Legend of the Gourd can be purchased online at BishopMuseumPress.org and in-person at the @hawaiivolcanoesnps gift shop.
